We are here to guide and support your professional transition journey as a registered nurse in the UK. Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) monitors and confirms that an applicant is competent in practising safely and effectively in the UK as a nurse or midwife. They evaluate the applicant’s qualification, training and experience against UK NMC standards.
You need to have completed at least 10 years of school education before starting your post-secondary education nursing or midwifery training program, which leads to registration. This must be at least a three-year full-time program. For the Indian nurses, it could be either B.Sc or Diploma in Nursing.
When you apply to register, the NMC need to be satisfied you have the necessary knowledge of English to communicate clearly and effectively. NMC accept two language tests as evidence of your ability to communicate effectively in English: the International English Language Test System (IELTS) and the Occupational English Test (OET). Communication is defined as speaking, reading, listening and writing and your evidence must demonstrate competence in these four mandatory skills.

Part two is a practical test known as the Observed Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE). There are three approved OSCE test providers: University of Northampton, Oxford Brookes University and Ulster University.
